CELL-LEVEL MONITORING
BMS
Monitoring and controlling the battery, for stable operation.
A battery management system (BMS) monitors the state of a battery and controls charging and discharging.
KULR maintains several BMS architectures for different applications and operating environments, and provides the configuration that fits the requirements.
ROLE
The control center for stable battery operation.
Assembling cells into a pack does not make them safe to use.
Each cell in a battery pack differs slightly in performance. Over repeated charging and discharging, those differences grow, and the load begins to fall unevenly on particular cells.
A BMS monitors the state of each cell and adjusts charging and discharging to keep the whole pack in a stable condition. When a fault occurs, it detects it promptly and reports it.

-
Monitoring
Reads cell voltage and temperature continuously.
-
Balancing
Holds down variation between cells so the load does not fall unevenly.
-
Control
Sets the timing of charging and discharging according to the application and the state of the battery.
-
Fault detection
Identifies a cell that has developed a fault and reports it early.
ARCHITECTURES
Several architectures, chosen for the application.
The performance required changes with the application and the environment.
Flexible control, tuned to the application and the environment, draws the best performance out of the equipment.
A small consumer device, an industrial setting full of electromagnetic noise, and a system used in space each call for a different approach to monitoring and control. KULR has answered each of these requirements with the configuration that fits.
-
4S〜24S
Battery systems with multiple cells connected in series.
-
Five or more
Different architectures, chosen for the application and the environment.
-
High-voltage applications
Dedicated configurations for eVTOL aircraft and similar uses.
In addition to integration into energy storage systems, the BMS is available on its own.
* “S” denotes the number of cells connected in series. 4S is four cells in series; 24S is twenty-four.
SAFETY BY DESIGN
Placing a large battery where people gather.
How safety is built. We have an answer.
A lithium-ion battery stores a great deal of energy, and the consequences of a fault are not small. For a large-capacity energy storage system, how safety is secured becomes the central question.
A BMS throttles charging and discharging as cell voltage or temperature approaches its limit, keeping the battery out of a dangerous state. Combined with thermal management and propagation resistance, it keeps the heat and the effects of a cell fault from spreading to the cells around it.
Evacuation shelters, government offices, factories. Placing a large-capacity energy storage system where people are:
safety is secured by BMS control together with thermal management and propagation-resistance technology.
